Security Features
DirMonitor has some features that will enable it to run in stealth mode, and make it difficult for unauthorized users to shut down its services.

In this session I will explain how to enable these features.

To start, we should give enable the password protection of DirMonitor. To do this, go to Options|Preferences...

Here you can set a number of features, most of which are explained in Other Features. Now go to the tab named Security.

The first feature we'll discuss is the "Permission to close" feature.
When checked, DirMonitor will ask you whether you really want to close and disable its services. This is a way to ensure that DirMonitor won't be closed by other programs without you noticing it.

Also, you can set a Password to maximize and close DirMonitor. This will prevent unauthorized users to shutdown DirMonitors services or alter the contents of your DirMonitor File.

Of course you need to write down the old password to be able to change any settings concerning the use of passwords.

When you've written down a new password, click on Change to save it. Now minimize DirMonitor. You will be asked whether you want to log out. If you don't log out, DirMonitor will remember your password and you don't need to give it again until next start.

Note that this poses a security risk, as now everyone can maximize and close DirMonitor without knowing the password.

When you choose Log out, you will be asked for the password, next time you maximize DirMonitor.

In the following session
  • You will see which other settings can be changed using the Preferences window.
